Coworking around the world: Miguel McKelvey

Happiness at work: Miguel McKelvey

WeWork’s Miguel McKelvey shares his secrets in the new C2 Podcast

How many WeWork coworking locations are there in the world? Well, the short answer is more than 130 — but since they’re currently opening 10 to 15 new locations per month, including, notably, the iconic Lord & Taylor building in Manhattan. With WeWork on such a massive growth track, how do they maintain and protect the ecosystem and, just as importantly, its quality?

At the C2 Montréal 2017 conference, WeWork Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Miguel McKelvey spoke with interviewer Chris Denson (Innovation Crush), addressing burning questions regarding innovative work environments and large-scale business growth in “Working on it,” the first episode of the brand new C2 Podcast.

From coliving to coworking

“The environments have to be vibrant,” says Miguel. “They have to make you happy. You have to walk in in the morning and be like, ‘Wow, this is cool! I’m happy to be here.’”

Miguel was raised in what he calls a “collective,” with friends, family and people coming in and out all the time. He sees that natural flow as a source of energy.  “I think in some ways we’ve created that [with the] WeWork environment, which is the same way I grew up.”
