  • At GE Energy, Christofer successfully grew their automation business by 34% in two years.

Producing a fusion reaction on Earth requires heating the hydrogen fuel to 150 million degrees – 10 times hotter than the centre of the sun. General Fusion’s new PI3 plasma injector is the world’s largest and most powerful such device, and is a prototype of a fuel injector for a fusion power plant.

The energy injector

Christofer Mowry has dedicated his career to developing clean, safe sustainable energy, and now he’s on the cusp of fusion. Christofer has over 30 years of experience in the global energy industry, specializing in the development and commercialization of innovative clean energy technologies. His goal at General Fusion is to advance the Canadian energy company’s transition from cutting-edge lab-scale research to engineering the development of a world-changing integrated prototype reactor. Christofer’s career is a testament to how far clean energy has come: he started out with the Philadelphia Electric Company before spending 10 years with GE Energy in various management roles, revitalizing businesses from California to Norway. His next move took him to B&W Nuclear Energy, a division of The Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy Company, where he served as president before moving to WSI, a private equity-backed field services and manufacturing company, assuming the role of president and COO.

Building towards the next generation of nuclear energy technology, in 2011 Christofer founded disruptive energy technology company Generation mPower, a joint venture of Babcock & Wilcox and Bechtel, and an early leader in the design and licensing of small modular reactors. In 2015, General Synfuels International called on Christofer to step in as CEO and chairman. There he developed in situ oil shale gasification technology that produces hydrocarbons in an economically competitive and environmentally responsible manner, before coming to General Fusion. With his broad multilingual, multicultural skill set, Christofer makes a natural fit for a company intent on transforming the world’s energy supply.

“Fusion is at an inflection point right now.”
