The computer science research reformer
Dr. Brent Hecht is the Director of the People, Space, and Algorithms Research Group, a Northwestern University lab aiming to identify and address societal problems that are created or exacerbated by advances in computer science. Dr. Hecht is also on the executive committee of the FAT* conference, the leading publication venue for algorithmic bias research, and is the Chair of the ACM Future of Computing Academy (FCA). In the FCA, Dr. Hecht leads a large group of researchers in industry and academia calling on the computer science research community to be much more transparent about how its innovations could affect society in negative ways and to make the mitigation of these risks a top research priority.
