François Legault was born in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on May 26th 1957. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration (public accounting) and a master’s degree in business administration (finance MBA) from HEC Montreal. He is a Fellow of the Quebec CPA order.
He began his career as an auditor and team leader at Ernst & Young before he was nominated as director of finances and administration at Nationair Canada. then became marketing director at Québécair and went on to co-found Air Transat, of which he was the CEO for more than a decade. During his time spent in the realm of business, he also played an administrative role in companies such as Provigo, Culinar, Sico, Technolab and Bestar.
François Legault has been politically active since 1998. In 2011, he founded a new political formation, the Coalition Avenir Québec. Leading this party, he became Premier of Quebec in 2018. As head of state, his leadership style is defined by five great priorities: valorizing education, making quality healthcare accessible for all, developing an economy based on ownership, promoting the French language and culture and maintaining the integrity of the public sector.
