The tireless competitor

François Hamelin comes from what many have called the “First Family” of Canadian short track speed skating. He made his Olympic debut at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics alongside older brother Charles, and the two stood on the podium together after winning gold in the 5,000-metre relay. Prior to that, François had made his presence known on the world championship stage in 2008 and was named that year’s Rising Star for short track by Speed Skating Canada. That same year, he helped the Canadian short track team to both a silver at the World Championships and a silver at the World Team Championships. He has represented Canada at the Olympics in 2010, 2014 and 2018.
