The culture coach

Jessica Neal is someone who knows how to inspire the best in people so they can do their best work. As the Chief Talent Officer at Netflix, it’s Jessica’s responsibility to build and evolve the internet entertainment company’s culture, leading a dream team of talent pros who ensure Netflix’s people, culture and business thrive. She does this by way of a secret sauce–like combination of recruiting, empowerment and team building that increases job satisfaction, productivity and business growth. Her work developing and strengthening Netflix’s culture today is a continuation of something she started over a decade ago. In her first tour of duty at Netflix, from 2006-2013, Jessica was heavily responsible for building the recruiting team that helped transition the company from a direct-to-customer DVD rental service to the streaming juggernaut that it is today. Jessica’s successes at Netflix led to tackling similar challenges when she left in 2013 to become head of human resources at Coursera, which provides online access to top-shelf university courses, and later Chief People Officer at Scopely, a leading player in the mobile gaming industry. She returned to Netflix in 2017, overseeing HR for the 2,000-strong product engineering team before being promoted to lead Netflix’s entire talent operations.
“More and more companies are now understanding and appreciating that culture is an important strategy, and that people are their biggest assets.”
