Kate Heartfield

The journalist novelist

Kate Heartfield is an author of speculative fiction and a former opinion editor and columnist for the Ottawa Citizen. In 2018, she published her first novel (Armed in Her Fashion, ChiZine Publications), her first game (The Road to Canterbury, Choice of Games) and the time-travel novella Alice Payne Arrives (Tor.com Publishing), which was followed by Alice Payne Rides in spring 2019. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Nebula, Locus, Crawford and Sunburst awards, and she was a finalist for Canada’s National Newspaper Award for editorial writing in 2015. Kate currently lives in Ottawa where she teaches journalism at Carleton University when she isn’t writing.
