The net defender

Who’s job is it to fight misinformation online? Former award-winning journalist and current CIO of Mozilla Katharina Borchert believes that journalists and leaders in technology and innovation must work together – especially at a time when truth in reporting is increasingly under fire. Curious and growth oriented, Katharina has been thinking and writing about the tech world and the sociopolitical implications of the digital age since the early days of the internet, which led her to key positions in highly ranked online publishing groups such as the WAZ Media Group (Editor-in-Chief and Director Online) and Spiegel Online (CEO). At renowned open innovation project Mozilla, Katharina taps into the wisdom of the crowd while striving to make the open source community as diverse and impactful as possible. A strong defender of net neutrality, she believes in a people-owned and people-run internet that everyone can access. Before choosing a career in media and innovation, Katharina studied law and worked at the UN Center for Human Rights.
“It has become clear that massive amounts of misinformation are being amplified, which is detrimental to the web as a whole and it diminishes the returns for people.”
