High-impact humanitarian
Kirpatrick Day has spent the majority of his 20-year professional career responding to crises and conflicts around the world. From his earliest days reporting from the frontlines of the war in what was then Zaire and subsequently in Kosovo, Kirpatrick has passionately advocated for the needs of refugees and the dispossessed. He poured this passion into designing and managing what were often large-scale conflict and post-conflict reconstruction programs in Kosovo, Macedonia, Iraq, East Timor and Afghanistan on behalf of the U.S. government’s Agency for International Development (USAID). While with USAID, he was called upon to lead high-level assessments of Macedonia, Haiti, Lebanon and what was then southern Sudan, and led efforts to reform and improve USAID’s humanitarian response capacities. A widely-respected strategic thinker and skilled manager of high-impact programs in challenging environments, Kirpatrick has parlayed the breadth of his experience and expertise into the creation of The Ascend Initiative. It’s an innovative private partnership model for humanitarian response and fostering social inclusion for which he provides strategic vision as Executive Director.
