Marketing Manager, Ocean Reef Group & Nemo’s Garden
  • The Ocean Reef Group began over 70 years ago as a small diving equipment manufacturer in Italy, steadily growing into a niche international company with headquarters in San Marcos, California and Genova, Italy.
  • Nemo’s Garden engineered each underwater biosphere to be a unique sealed environment, free of pests and climate fluctuations, and capable of growing even notoriously onerous plants such as wasabi.

In his free time, Luca doesn’t roam too far from the ocean – he’s an enthusiastic surfer and has been scuba diving since the age of nine.

The underwater gardener

Water is the stuff of life for entrepreneur Luca Gamberini. He’s taken that aphorism to its extreme conclusion with the Nemo’s Garden underwater plant-growing biospheres, an innovative venture for creating an alternative, low-impact food supply. Compelled by global food scarcity and the environmental impact of traditional agricultural, Luca and his father Sergio embarked on the Nemo’s Garden project in 2012. The stable, bubble-like atmospheres engineered by Nemo’s Garden are capable of growing a vast array of plants in diverse environments around the world. It builds on Sergio’s experimental prototypes for underwater greenhouses with support from his business, Ocean Reef Group, and crowdfunding. As marketing manager of both Ocean Reef Group and Nemo’s Garden (Nemo’s is a project of Ocean Reef Group), Luca and his teams apply a balanced approach to a business founded on science and passionate convictions. Luca has played an instrumental role in bringing the project to the cusp of being able to large-scale produce the underwater garden systems.
“We deeply and firmly believe that on a planet that is 71% oceans, it is only natural that the future of sustainability will be in the oceans.”
