Shira Lazar

Speaker, Shira Lazar
Co-Founder, Host and Executive Producer, What’s Trending
  • Shira’s daily, live online talk show What’s Trending was nominated for Outstanding Creative Achievement Emmy for Interactive Media, Original Interactive TV Programming (2012).
  • Shira is a Webby Awards Honoree, and a Streamy Awards and IAWTV Winner for “Best Web Series Live Host”.
  • Named one of Fast Company’s “Most Influential Women in Technology” (2011)

Her origin story was made famous by Fast Company: “It all started when Shira lost her personal video camera [but] decided she wasn’t going to fork over a couple hundred dollars for a new Nokia n95. She called [Nokia] up and made a plea – more journalists should be shooting video on the go and she would help with the outreach. One free camera later, Nokia asked Lazar to be the first official vlogger for the Webby Awards summit. A hybrid journalist was born.”

The digital culture curator

Shira Lazar became an influencer before it was even a buzzword. Riding the first waves of the online vlogger community, the native Montrealer turned herself into a leading international broadcaster in the burgeoning digital media space while totally avoiding the legacy journalism route or Hollywood hustle. Building her career from the web up, she would eventually become the source for the internet’s hottest conversations. In 2011, she founded What’s Trending – an Emmy -winning online news hub and “millennial media brand” that features a curated selection of viral and shareable content – as well as Partners Project, a YouTube talk show where she interviews internet celebrities. Today, she’s one of the most recognizable hosts on the web, working on entertainment news show Circa Pop Live!, as well as the weekly podcast, On Tour with Live Nation. A total pro at live broadcasts, original programming, branded entertainment and social video, she’s often tapped by people like Adweek, Bloomberg TV and CNN to comment on how online conversations are shaping the offline world.
“Spend less time being interesting and more time being interested in people and the world.”
