Thomas John Muthoot
Chairman, Muthoot Pappachan Group
The massively successful, family-run Muthoot Pappachan Group (MPG), started out humbly enough as a grain retailer and trader in 1887. Nearly 130 years later, it’s one of the largest non-banking financial companies in India, and it has been spearheaded by Thomas John Muthoot for over a quarter century. Thomas’s vision has been credited with helping pave the way for the group to diversify into various wide-ranging sectors including financial services, hospitality, automotive, realty, healthcare, precious metals and alternate energy. Currently, MPG has 20,000 employees serving over a million customers at its 3,800 branches across India. A Harvard alumni, Thomas is a member of the CII Kerala Regional Council, an Inner Circle Member of INKtalks, and has been the recipient of Young Hotel Entrepreneur and Business Man of the Year awards.
