Valérie-Micaela Bain
Journalist, Radio-Canada

Valerie-Micaela Bain began her career at Radio-Canada in Manitoba in 2006. Over the next six years, she covered a wide range of stories including the North Dakota Democratic Party convention held during the 2008 Democratic primary with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Based in Montreal since 2012, Valérie-Micaela is a versatile journalist who was on the ground during the 2012 student protests, the 2016 Venice International Film Festival and the 2017 Academy Awards. The topics she covers from day to day are varied, but she has a particular interest in societal issues, including those affecting indigenous and black communities. Fluently bilingual, she recently covered the Tokyo Olympics for CBC and Radio-Canada. Sports have always been a major part of her life: she was a student athlete in basketball for ten years, finishing her career with the Concordia University Stingers. Today, she has added road biking, downhill skiing, weight training and hiking to her sporting passions.
