Co-Founder and CEO, Chalk
When, as a mere high schooler, William Zhou noticed that his teachers were struggling with their workloads, he took concrete, effective steps to do something about it. The result was Planboard, which became the inspiration for Chalk.com, an education software company geared towards helping K-12 teachers with planning and assessment while pursuing the bigger challenge of changing education. Other early ventures included Design Vetica (a web consultancy with clients including the Red Cross and Amnesty International), which he founded when he was 16, and which was best known for Draftboard, an online tool that allows designers and clients to collaborate. Forbes recently named William to their Top 30 Under 30, and today Chalk.com is used in over 20,000 schools by more than 100,000 no-doubt-grateful teachers.
